Monday 2th July – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods and hot.

A good forecast today with a moderate breeze starting W before turning NW during the morning so wanted to head to Levington early if the wind was there. The wind was blowing so after a quick breakfast I headed over to the Marina arriving at 8.30 with the tide low, it looked like that it was only just starting to turn, it was fairly cloudy with a few spots of rain but by the time I had set-up the sun was out. With not much water in the river and being a tad off it was a job to judge the wind strength so too a chance with my 5m Bolt which must have been OK as I did 26 miles on it, to be far it was a bit of a handful at times and I could have been on 4m! I started off by doing short runs across the river slowly heading downwind, there was a big swell running down the middle of the river but it was smoother both sides of the river making gybing easier, in fact it was a real gybe fest doing 80 in this session only going in once when I hit the bottom half way round! I spent a good part of the session doing runs from the corner down towards the docks, I used a yellow bouy as a gybe mark loads of times! After hitting the bottom I thought I had picked up some weed so jumped off to check, I missed grabbing the board and had to swim hard to catch up with it, knackering, I laid in the warm water several minutes to get my breath back I even had a yacht sail over to see if I was OK :) I then beat back and headed in for a snack and checked my gps and had done 25 n/miles so decided to head out again to push it over 30 and it was great gybing in the smooth water in front of my van ending up sailing 36 miles, just me on the water with a few yachts, top session!
